Alberta Social Studies Program of Studies
Alberta's Social Studies grades 1-9 curriculum includes: Outcomes Related to Skills and Processes. Included in this outcome is Dimensions of thinking, one being Critical Thinking. This can be found on Page 8 of the POS.
"Critical Thinking : Critical thinking is a process of inquiry, analysis and evaluation resulting in a reasoned judgment. Critical thinking promotes the development of democratic citizenship. Students will develop skills of critical thinking that include: distinguishing fact from opinion; considering the reliability and accuracy of information; determining diverse points of view, perspective and bias; and considering the ethics of decisions and actions" (Alberta Program Of Studies, 2007).
